what's for lunch?

breakfast - easy (especially since we got a blender today!) - sophie has a banana, yogurt, and cereal every morning with no complaints (almost).

dinner, not so bad, usually by dinnertime we've given in and turned on the a/c, and with saving dinner it's already planned out.

but lunch??

i have no idea! lately it's almost like i'm dreading lunchtime to come around.... because i have absolutely no clue what to make.

our fridge and pantry are stocked with all the basics but i can't seem to pull it together. the reason - it is hot, hot, hot out! it's been around 95 everyday and i can't for the life of me think of anything good, that sophie will like, that doesn't need to be heated up.

because turning on the stove/oven/microwave is just out of the question right now.

help!
what do you make for lunch when it's hot out?

my little bookworm

this is sophie's favorite thing to do now, by far - in fact right now she is sitting behind the couch reading her books and talking up a storm about them (in sophie-ese).
still no english words.

morning whirlwind

sophie in one of her rare quiet moments: "reading" the book that her friend reed gave her for her birthday.

...but this is more common. i try to take a picture of her in her cute new swimsuit, and she runs away.

pulling her "dancing alligator" from plan toys.

a day in denver

and it was HOT! 95 degrees to be exact. i actually think that today was the hottest weather i've ever been out in.
we walked up and down 16th avenue, it's a foot-traffic and hybrid busses-only street. pretty cool. we had a slice of banana creme cheesecake from the cheesecake factory, it was good! i've never had the cheesecake factory before.
then we went to a park and sophie herded the pigeons and dwayne got bit by a squirrel.
head on over to dwayne's new blog to see the pictures!

happy fourth of july

we had a busy weekend! festivities started on july 3rd, we went to a carnival-type thing on post at around four, the fireworks started at 9:30. sophie actually liked the fireworks and had a good time. the sky was crazy and there was lightning mixed in with the fireworks:

then, the next morning, we went camping:

then the next day, we washed the car, went thrifting (yes, dwayne went too!), went out to dinner, and saw a movie (hancock).

then this morning we went for an 8 mile walk and then went out to lunch with rosi and esparza.....

i think the rest of today and tomorrow we will take it easy!

bad fish karma

our first tank full of fish died of ich.

and so did our second.

so we bleached the crap out of the entire tank, scrubbed everything down, and got new fish a while back - on father's day.

so a couple days ago they come down with ich. we still had the meds from last time, so we drugged them up for a couple days... but we are one fish down anyways.

and now?

now they have fin rot.

it's been decided. we are not fit fish parents. these last four better not die too.

a slow day in the neighborhood

we've been listening to raffi's "bananaphone" a lot lately. it's sophie's favorite music for now. it's tuesday, the day i take methotrexate, and since my lesson learned last week (do not go for a run after taking methotrexate or you will feel sick for the entire rest of the day) we are having a slow day.
singing sophie to sleep for her morning nap
taking laundry off the line and folding it
reading books
studying for my biology midterm tomorrow.
and that's probably about as much as we'll get accomplished today.

but there is more exciting news!
check it out:
